insurgent

Insurgent is the second book in the divergent series. In  this book the main character, Tris is hiding from the evil Erudite whom are trying to hunt people like Tris down. The reason Tris is unique is because she is divergent, this means that she can resist simulations given to her to test her strength. I liked the first book better but that does not mean that this book was bad. I reccomend that you read the first book instead of just reading this one.

Slice Of Life

I am ready to pass out.
I have hiked for an hour uphill with the hot  sun beating down on my back.
"Just a little higher" says my grandma or as I call her Gramcraker.
After five more minutes of walking we all stop.
"Where here" says Gramcracker.
I tilt my head up just enough so I can see what is in front of me.
It's a huge red rock the size of boulder with is covered by a canopy of trees.
"Were are we I ask my mom who is next me.
"We're at Tomato Rock" says my mom smiling.
My grandmother my mom and I sit down on a shady log  a couple feet from the rock.
We sip water and eat energy bars and talk for about thirty minutes.
Then we get up and walk right back down the gravel road down to our cottage.
I open the back door and as I do I feel a fresh gust of cool air which feels great.
I walk over to the couch next to my grandfather.
"Were did you go" he asked
I smile and say proudly
"We went to tomato rock."

slice of life

I look down into the water firmly clutching the metal bars next to me.
"Come on Sloan jump" says my friend Libby behind me.
She is tan with a blonde bob and freckles. She has jumped of the high dives hundreds of times this is my first.
I am terrified.
I trace my toe slowly across the board, it's rough like sand.
"You don't have to jump off if you don't want to" Libby says.
"You could walk back down if you feel like it."
I consider this and am about to turn around but then I realize You can't always run from your fears, you have to confront them eventually. I slowly walk to the board, I look down, close my eyes.
Then I jump.
I squeeze my eye shut for the few moments that I am in the air hoping that I don't die. I won't die I definitely will not
SPLASH.
The impact herts a little bit but once I am underwater it's soft and blissful. I kick down to the bottom of the pool and touch the smooth floor of the pool. I stay like that for a moment then float up to the surface to get the air that prevents me from staying at the bottom peacefully.
I burst from the water and hear the screaming and laughing of my friends, the smell of burgers and hotdogs roasting, and feel the warm summer sun on my face.
Libby stands at the edge of the pool.
"So what did you think"
" Let's do it again"
We laugh she helps me out and we walk away from the pool to the food stand to get milkshakes.

Valentines day massacre

Bullets sound loud in the crisp morning.
Panic stricken people run from the sound as if it were death it self standing before them in its great black robe.
A siren sounds as a single police car drives off  with the sound slowly fading.
Later dozens of cars stream into the parking garage which was the origin of the bullets.
Police swarm the crime scene like ants analyzing the smallest clues to find how the shooters were.
A man is rushed into a car and driven off to the hospital.
Should he be nurtured because of his horrible condition or treated like the scum criminal he is.
It is hard to feel sympathy for your enemy.
Six other men lie on the ground.
Frozen in the thoughts and gestures the died in.
Are the really dead or just frozen for a very long time.

Divergent

I loved Divergent, I think that it was very intense and hard to put down. Divergent is set in a futuristic setting, Divergent is about this girl named Beatrice, who grows up in the world of five factions: Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Erudite, and Dauntless. Beatrice has turned sixteen which means she must choose a faction. Each faction stands for something( Abnegation: selflessness, Amity: peace, Candor: honesty, Erudite: intelligence, Dauntless: bravery).   Beatrice choses Dauntless and is soon caught in a mess including discovering that she is immune to mind control and most other chemical hallucinations. I would recommend this book to people who love fiction and want something that is hard to put down.

Poem

My cold hands turn on the radio. I flip through the stations listening to clips of songs untill I find the right one.
 Lately I've been
I've been losing sleep
dreaming about the things that we could be
but baby I've been I've been praying hard
said no more counting dollars we'll be counting
stars.
I love that song. It has a nice tune but what's with the baby part. Almost every song I have ever heard has baby in it. Why do people call the ones the love baby. "oh baby" or "I love you baby" after awhile it get stupid just like vampires.
Vampire used to be cool and scary but now there sparkly hot shirtless guys it's they same thing with werewolves. I like what werewolves used to stand for. The idea of what they used to stand for: independence, strength, power. I am told that are some good old werewolf movies. I would like to watch them sometime.
I love old movies. They have beautiful music and something that movies today don't have. I love Hitchcock movies they best. they have great music and have the best plot twists although I have only seen 4. My favorite is Physco.
Phsyco is about a women who takes money from her company and goes out into the world because she is unhappy with her life. She stays at a strange hotel and is murdered. Meanwhile her boyfriend and he sister are trying to find out what happened to her. There is a famous scene in the movie were the girl dies in the shower although i would watch at your own risk. I had nightmares about for three days.
Nightmares are so interesting, there so confusing but when ther in tour dreams they seem to make perfect sense. Like lets say say your running away from a giant toad and next thing you know your flying a gunship. I wish I could fly a gunship like the millenium falcon in Star Wars.
I have always wondered if Han Solo lived on that ship or he had a home on Tatooine.  I would hate to leave my home behind. I would miss my bookshelf, and my table, and my dolls i would hate to leave my dolls. I think that most of all I would miss my bed.

curse poem

May you rot until your horid stench kills all on earth.
May thou iPad be flushed down the toilet and never found.
May the sun nor moon shine on your face for the sake of others.
May thou face melt in a pit of boiling lava and may your scream of pain never be heard by man.
May you be eaten by the devil and come out into a deep dark pit you worthless ass.

To you I say one thing:
go across yourself you hideous wench.
this is for my little cousin Alice
may her go die in a pit

Flowers For Algernon 2

I think this book is very deep. There is a lot of symbolism and a lot for foreshadowing which is not always easy to follow. The book used foreshadowing by taking a mouse and have all that happens to him happen to the main character Charlie. The author also used windows and mirrors as symbolism in this book, for example he used mirrors to let the main character reflect on there past. I would recomend this to someone who wants something very heavy to read.

poem

What Lurks Out There
By Sloan Woodberry
When the light it is gone and you are all alone the monster comes out to haunt you.
Out of the shadow or from the closet it emerges grinding its teeth.
It flesh is pealing and its eyes are are dead like a rusted saw.
It is clothed in black garments that have been torn and frayed by time.
It grins at you showing it rotted teeth as you sink into your covers.
You wrap yourself in blankets as if they were armor.
This armor gives you courage deep inside, so you thrust away your covers and lunge for the light to expose it.
The light comes flashing so bright, and you turn to watch the beast melt and hiss...
But it's gone, you have conquered a beast that lived deep within.

Flowers For Algernon

I really enjoyed this book. I think that it was written in clever form, not just the diary entrys but how it shows his growing intelligence. Flowers For Algernon is about a man named Charlie who has a learning disability. Charlie has surgery performed on him to make him smarter, and soon his whole world is changed. Suddenly he becomes a genius but is this much better than what he was before. Now Charlie is confronted with all types of problims that he never realized existed, remembers his disturbing past, and has struggled with the reality of his life. I think that this book has a lot of deep meaning and symbolism. I would reccomend this book to someone who loves fiction but also loves something that really sucks you in.

imaganary girls 2

I enjoyed this book to some extent but I think that the author could have tried harder. This book was very rushed and in many ways and confusing. When something odd happened there was some what of an investigation but then it contuniued on with even giving that event a second thought. On a one to ten scale I would give this a four. It had some good ideas but they were not orginized well.

Imaginary girls part 1

This book is pretty good so far. It is about this girl named Chloe whom lives with her sister in a small house near the mysterious reservoir which settled after a flood over the small town of Olive. One night Chloe decides to go to the reservoir with some friends for a late night swim. While taking on a challenge given to her by her sister to swim the reservoir end to end, discovers the dead body of one her classmates. She moves away and leaves everything behind, but when she comes back for the summer she sees her classmate alive and well. Now Chloe is tangled in her past and is trying to figure out. What is real and what is fantasy. This book is odd but that is what makes it interesting.

Coraline

Coraline
by Neil Gaiman
This book was a little bit young if you know what I mean. There were no real big problems that you would see in real life. This was a pretty good book but it would be much more enjoyable if I had read it a few years ago. This story is about a girl named Coraline who is ignored by her parents. Coraline finds a door that by day leads to a brick wall but by night it leads to a wonderful place full of wonder. There are performing rats, magnificent food, and most curious a mother that seems very interested with Coraline. I would recomend this book to readers 8-10 who are looking for a creepy halloween story.

skillig

This book is very interesting and has some clever plot twists and ideas. It is about a boy named Michael who find a strange man in his basement. This man has wings, does not move, and never shows clear emotion. I would reccomend this book to someone who is looking for a good creepy halloween story.

The Secret Life Of Bees

The Secret Life Of Bees
By: Sue Monk Kidd
This book is great I really think that it gave you surprises that you would have never imagined. This story is about a girl who is abused by her father and runs away to a farm were she meets three odd sisters that keep bees. I think this book was very sweet. It had a lot of parts about the coming of age. I would recommend this to 11-15 year old girls because it deals with a lot female of issues.

13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher

This book was probably the best book I have read for a long time. 13 Reasons Why is about a boy named Clay Jensen who receives in the mail 13 tapes from Hannah Baker, but Hannah Baker took a handful of pills 2 weeks ago. Soon you learn the reason why she took these pills and the people who are at fault. I loved this book it really kept you on edge. This book is a pretty easy read nothing to complicated but it is very dark. I would recommend this book to people who are ok with something sort of dark and are looking for a quick read.

The Client

The Client Part 2
by John Grisham
The Client was a great book. This is a two week book which should be paced. The story is about a boy who learned more than he should, and is soon in the middle of a conflict between the mafia and the FBI.  The two conflicting groups provided a lot of clever thinking and intrigue. This book does not alway provide surprise but it does provide adventure. In this story the FBI have a surprising amount of things in common. While forcing information out of people they don't think about the effect that it could have on them. I would recommend this book to someone who has the time and can handle the certain parts that drag on for a while.

The Client

The Client Part 1

by John Grisham

I have not finished this book yet but so far so good. The Client is about a boy who finds out a little to much then he should, He is soon thrown between law enforcement and the mob. I am on page 195 so I am not half way but I am close ( The book is 566 pages). I love the back and forth between the FBI and the Mob because it makes a problem that does not have a clear solution which is very in teresting for the reader. I so far would reccomend this book to people who want a good adventure and love clever tricks.

Favorite Books

Hi my name is Sloan. Here are my three favorite books and the reasons why I like them.

. The Outsiders
I find this book my favorite because it seems to have a real moral to it. When I read this I seemed to be glued to the book. The story has a way to show you that giving someone a second chance can mean everything to them and makes them forever grateful. I would recommend this book to people 10 and up.

. Cinder
Cinder is a wonderful story twisted from the classic fairytale Cinderella. Cinder is one of the first books that I read which has real substance that took place in the future. It really is amazing in its own way and clever too. I would recommend this to people 11-25.

. The Maze Runner
This book really seems to be cleverly written. There is a plot goes at a good pace and has good character development. There is much creativity in the story and unexpected plot twists. I woull recommend this book to ages 10-17.
