Cress

This week I read Cress. It is the third book in the lunar chronicles series and I would recommend reading the books in order. I put a url to another review of the book below. I really like this series. It is basically a bunch of futuristic fairytales mashed together.

She is rescued from her satellite from Linh Cinder and her friends, and now is a wanted criminal in the middle of the start of a intergalactic war.

I liked this book it was interesting, clever, and was a great addition to the series. I would recommend this book to everyone in our class who is willing to read it.

poem

She flew down
Face first she went down the slide
Her teachers told her not to and her friends told her she was crazy
She went anyway
She always did
When she was younger her parents would take her to the park to play
There were other kids there who were to scared to even approach the slide
But she always would always go strait to the slide and push herself down
Face first
It was fun and she loved it
So when she approached the slide she wasn't scared
She could hardly wait
She layed down and looked ahead
She couldn't see the end of the slide because it turned but that didn't damper her excitement
She took a deep breath and pushed
It went much faster than she expected and soon
Splat
She couldn't understand it had worked all the other times, why not now
The fall had temporarily knocked the wind out of her and she could feel her chin and knees hurting
Screams escaped her mouth and tears ran down her face
A teacher ran towards her and she kept crying, not just because she was hurt, but because she was shocked
because she flew to close to the sun and was burned

Reality boy

I really liked this book. I thought it was clever interesting and thought provoking. It is about a boy named Gerald. When he was little his mother invited a nannying reality TV show to film at his house. Twelve years later it is still effecting him and causing day to day trauma. Will Gerald always be the boy on Tv or will he be able to escape that title and make a life for himself. This book was  great.I would recommend it to most kids in our class.

Occasional poem

Smash
Friends reunite
Crash
Families are put back together
Crack
People see each other for the first time in years
The wall is coming down
People are full of joy
Smash
People are exited
Crash
 people can go home
Crack
for the first time in years
The wall is crumbling down
It has been long enough
Smash
People stand shocked
Crash
watching it fall
Crack
It is stunning because for the first time in years
A wall won't be found
People embrace
Smash
Whoop and cheer
Crash
Joy is in the air
Crack
People are happy everywhere
and for the first time in years
The wall is down

ode

Ode to butter coffee

Oh butter coffee so sweet and tasty
Your creamy brown color makes me smile
With your creamy fabulousness you have earned a place in my heart
How can you be so simple yet so delicious
How can you make a disgusting sounding mixture taste like heaven
I wonder...
The day I found you my life made a turn for the better...or is it the butter
I remember the day I first tasted butter coffee..,
At first it sounded disgusting and like a horrible idea, but later I found out how wrong I was
Until then I hated the idea of mixing the already great taste of coffee with anything else but milk and sugar
That day I learned that there is one thing better then normal coffee... buttered coffee
I mixed the coconut oil, milk, and melted butter in a blender expecting some thing bad
I poured the coffee into the blender and added ice cringing as I turned on the blender.
I poured the brown creamy mixture into a small glass and took a sip
It was great but it was missing something
Out of the pantry I grabbed vanilla and stevia
I measured 1/2 a teaspoon of vanilla and mixed it in
I then put some stevia in
1 drop
2 drop
3 drops
I drank the mixture
I knew then I had found magic
Oh buttered coffee how great you are
I hope that you fill my mornings with joy forever

Haiku

Giraffes
Extemely awkward
Odd creatures with useless horns
Giraffes are awesome

Domino's gift
(Domino is my dog)

I got you a gift
Blood and feathers galore
Why don't you like birds

Pudding
I enjoy pudding
Chocolate pudding is best
This Haiku is done

Sol the hair cut

"Are you sure" My mom says
I look out the car window at the hair salon. Its a small brick building at the end of the block. It has ivy growing up the side and garden filled with little white flowers. There is a big window in place of a wall on one side. I can see people sitting in chairs talking to there hairdressers and reading magazines.
"Yeah" I respond
My mom looks at me with her eyebrow raised smiling.
"Ok then" she says getting out of the car.
I open the door and look down at my hair. It is long it comes down about four inches past my shoulders. I pick up a dark brown strand and hold it between my fingers and examine it. I drop it and get out of the car.
My mom holds open the door to salon, and I walk in. We both casually sit down in the waiting room and wait for our name to be called. While we are waiting I contemplate what I am about to do.

Cut all your hair off are you insane?
It will look great
You'll look ridiculous
No I won't It will be awesome, I mean YOLO right
YOLO is just a way people justify there stupid actions
This isn't stupid
Yes it is
It isn't...is it?
It is
I am about to tell my mom that I don't want to do this when our name is called
"Woodberry"
Oh god
My mom talks to the lady at the front while Brad ( My hairdresser/family friend) takes me int the back.
"So" Brad say"You want a pixie cut?"
"Yeah"
"And your not going to chicken out this time"
"No"
Brad smiles at me.
"So how's school" He asks casually
"Good, I mean its over but good"
"Thats good"
"Hey Brad" I say
"Yeah" He responds
"Do you think my hair is ing enough for locks of love?"
Brad looks at it. He than opens a near by drawer and pulls out a tape measure.
"Just barely, but yes"
"Awesome"
He grabs a pony tail holder and puts my hair up. He grabs his scissors and looks at me.
"Are you sure" He says
I smile and nod. The is no turning back now
I take a deep breath

book blog

This week I read Define Normal by Julie Anne Peters. It is about a girl named Antonia. For extra credit Antonia takes up the job of being a peer counselor for Jasmine Luthor. Jasmine or Jazz, appears rude, rebellious, and the exact opposite of Antonia. Antonia at first is miserable, but after awhile learns that people are not always what they seem. This book was pretty good. I enjoyed the idea and the author did a nice job showing the connection between these two. I do feel like it was missing something although I don't know exactly what. I feel like the author didn't really go as deep into it as she could have. Overall this was a great book and I  would recommend this to most people in my class.
