Sol

I take in my surroundings. After crawling over a seat and out of the back row, and finally pulling my back pack out from between the seats, I look around. I see two big cabins across the street with smaller ones lined up on either side. After Elizabeth talks to us and I grab a bunk, I run toward the sound of the waves. There was a small wall separating us from the beach. I excitedly hopped over it and ran. People where squealing and laughing as they soaked there feet into the water. I run to join them. The water was cold but refreshing. I laugh and jump over the waves and completely soaked. I can't wait for this trip.

cress

This week I read Cress. It is the third book in the lunar chronicles series and I would recommend reading the books in order. I put a url to another review of the book below. I really like this series. It is basically a bunch of futuristic fairytales mashed together.
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11235712-cinder
WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS
Cress has been trapped in a satellite since she was a little girl. She works for the evil Queen Levana, who has been keeping her alive to help hack the computers of and spy on there enemies. She is rescued from her satellite from Linh Cinder and her friends, and now is a wanted criminal in the middle of the start of a intergalactic war.
I liked this book it was interesting, clever, and was a great addition to the series. I would recommend this book to everyone in our class who is willing to read it.

Limericks

Mina
There once was a girl named Mina
Who wanted to be a ballerina
But while walking through the park
She was attacked by laser sharks
And that was the last of Mina

A Boy Named Sue
There once was a boy named Sue
Who would have proffered to called be Lou
He tried to kill his Dad
His life is song which made him mad
And Johnny Cash doesn't know what to do

The Fall of Myspace
There once was a place called myspace
Which was a social media place
But then came Facebook
and without one last look
Everyone left myspace

poem

She flew down
Face first she went down the slide
Her teachers told her not to and her friends told her she was crazy
She went anyway
She always did
When she was younger her parents would take her to the park to play
There were other kids there who were to scared to even approach the slide
But she always would always go strait to the slide and push herself down
Face first
It was fun and she loved it
So when she approached the slide she wasn't scared
She could hardly wait
She layed down and looked ahead
She couldn't see the end of the slide because it turned but that didn't damper her excitement
She took a deep breath and pushed
It went much faster than she expected and soon
Splat
She couldn't understand it had worked all the other times, why not now
The fall had temporarily knocked the wind out of her and she could feel her chin and knees hurting
Screams escaped her mouth and tears ran down her face
A teacher ran towards her and she kept crying, not just because she was hurt, but because she was shocked
because she flew to close to the sun and was burned

Reality boy

I really liked this book. I thought it was clever interesting and thought provoking. It is about a boy named Gerald. When he was little his mother invited a nannying reality TV show to film at his house. Twelve years later it is still effecting him and causing day to day trauma. Will Gerald always be the boy on Tv or will he be able to escape that title and make a life for himself. This book was  great.I would recommend it to most kids in our class.

Occasional poem

Smash
Friends reunite
Crash
Families are put back together
Crack
People see each other for the first time in years
The wall is coming down
People are full of joy
Smash
People are exited
Crash
 people can go home
Crack
for the first time in years
The wall is crumbling down
It has been long enough
Smash
People stand shocked
Crash
watching it fall
Crack
It is stunning because for the first time in years
A wall won't be found
People embrace
Smash
Whoop and cheer
Crash
Joy is in the air
Crack
People are happy everywhere
and for the first time in years
The wall is down

ode

Ode to butter coffee

Oh butter coffee so sweet and tasty
Your creamy brown color makes me smile
With your creamy fabulousness you have earned a place in my heart
How can you be so simple yet so delicious
How can you make a disgusting sounding mixture taste like heaven
I wonder...
The day I found you my life made a turn for the better...or is it the butter
I remember the day I first tasted butter coffee..,
At first it sounded disgusting and like a horrible idea, but later I found out how wrong I was
Until then I hated the idea of mixing the already great taste of coffee with anything else but milk and sugar
That day I learned that there is one thing better then normal coffee... buttered coffee
I mixed the coconut oil, milk, and melted butter in a blender expecting some thing bad
I poured the coffee into the blender and added ice cringing as I turned on the blender.
I poured the brown creamy mixture into a small glass and took a sip
It was great but it was missing something
Out of the pantry I grabbed vanilla and stevia
I measured 1/2 a teaspoon of vanilla and mixed it in
I then put some stevia in
1 drop
2 drop
3 drops
I drank the mixture
I knew then I had found magic
Oh buttered coffee how great you are
I hope that you fill my mornings with joy forever

Haiku

Giraffes
Extemely awkward
Odd creatures with useless horns
Giraffes are awesome

Domino's gift
(Domino is my dog)

I got you a gift
Blood and feathers galore
Why don't you like birds

Pudding
I enjoy pudding
Chocolate pudding is best
This Haiku is done

Sol the hair cut

"Are you sure" My mom says
I look out the car window at the hair salon. Its a small brick building at the end of the block. It has ivy growing up the side and garden filled with little white flowers. There is a big window in place of a wall on one side. I can see people sitting in chairs talking to there hairdressers and reading magazines.
"Yeah" I respond
My mom looks at me with her eyebrow raised smiling.
"Ok then" she says getting out of the car.
I open the door and look down at my hair. It is long it comes down about four inches past my shoulders. I pick up a dark brown strand and hold it between my fingers and examine it. I drop it and get out of the car.
My mom holds open the door to salon, and I walk in. We both casually sit down in the waiting room and wait for our name to be called. While we are waiting I contemplate what I am about to do.

Cut all your hair off are you insane?
It will look great
You'll look ridiculous
No I won't It will be awesome, I mean YOLO right
YOLO is just a way people justify there stupid actions
This isn't stupid
Yes it is
It isn't...is it?
It is
I am about to tell my mom that I don't want to do this when our name is called
"Woodberry"
Oh god
My mom talks to the lady at the front while Brad ( My hairdresser/family friend) takes me int the back.
"So" Brad say"You want a pixie cut?"
"Yeah"
"And your not going to chicken out this time"
"No"
Brad smiles at me.
"So how's school" He asks casually
"Good, I mean its over but good"
"Thats good"
"Hey Brad" I say
"Yeah" He responds
"Do you think my hair is ing enough for locks of love?"
Brad looks at it. He than opens a near by drawer and pulls out a tape measure.
"Just barely, but yes"
"Awesome"
He grabs a pony tail holder and puts my hair up. He grabs his scissors and looks at me.
"Are you sure" He says
I smile and nod. The is no turning back now
I take a deep breath

book blog

This week I read Define Normal by Julie Anne Peters. It is about a girl named Antonia. For extra credit Antonia takes up the job of being a peer counselor for Jasmine Luthor. Jasmine or Jazz, appears rude, rebellious, and the exact opposite of Antonia. Antonia at first is miserable, but after awhile learns that people are not always what they seem. This book was pretty good. I enjoyed the idea and the author did a nice job showing the connection between these two. I do feel like it was missing something although I don't know exactly what. I feel like the author didn't really go as deep into it as she could have. Overall this was a great book and I  would recommend this to most people in my class.

sol march 31 DONE AT LAST!!!!!

I am finally done with this misery. MARCH IS OVER WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I am so happy for this to be finished.  No more late nights because I forgot my slice until the last minute (that happened at least five times). I am sooooooooo glad this is over. I wish I could say I never have to do this again but I also have march next year to look forward to ( sigh). For everyone who will be stuck with me next year can we agree to create a petition or something against it. Just something that will prevent this misery from taking place again. Ok I am hungry so I am going to go get something to eat... so yeah... happy last slice everyone.

sol mach 30

I am slowly going insane. very very slowly... but surely going insane.
Young children are everywhere. Normally they would be cute but to be completely honest I didn't want to have to deal with them.  I normally love christmas. The whole family is together, people are happy, presents are exchanged, and it is one of the few times a year when you can stuff your face with food and nobody judges you. But with the magic comes some issues, annoying relatives, bad presents, and of course bad christmas parties. Ok I can imagine that for some people christmas parties can be fun, but for others it is misery. Today I am stuck at christmas party hosted by some family friends. The majority of the kids there are under 7 and are complaining about god knows what for god knows reason. The only two people my age are in the corner talking to each other, I tried approaching them, apparently I make a great third wheel. So I am sitting on the couch with a kid next to me bouncing up and down. They are everywhere, screaming, crying, whining, I am going insane.
slowly...
slowly...
going
crazy

sol march 29

"Princesses always eat doughnuts" Gigi says
"But the princess has already had two doughnuts" Jessica says
Jessica is a close friend of the family. We are visiting her and her family in Charleston SC for break.
"But mommy" Gigi says
Gigi is wearing a princess dress and a tiara. The dress is pink with a blue bow and ruffles. With her dress Gigi is wearing a paper crown colored in with purple, blue, and pink crayon. She is holding her "royal scepter" in one hand and in the other she is holding her kitty.
"Gigi" I say "How about instead we go to the park"
"Ok" She says sulking off into her stroller, her plastic heels clicking as she passed
We walk to the park. My dad and Butler ( Gigi's dad) walk up ahead talking about there brackets in basketball. Gigi, Jessica, Carson, my mom, and I walk behind them my mom and Jessica talking while Carson and I walk beside them. We eventually arrive at the park. Gigi runs out of her stroller into towards the slide while I go grab a bench to sit down on near by. I sit down and lean back and close my eyes and stay like that until we have to go home.

How to be a princess (according to a two year old)

"Swoan" Gigi says as we walk into her room. Gigi is wearing a green dress with leggings and dragging her baby doll on the floor.
As we enter her room she pulls out a box from her closet
"You are my royal servant" She says casually
"Ok" I reply
"So my lady" I say in a exaggerated tone "Why exactly must you change you outfit"
Gigi turns around and raises an eyebrow " Because those are the official  rules of being a princess"  She says as if it was obvious " You must always change your outfit especially before dinner"
"Ok" I say
Rule 1. You must always change your outfit, a dinner change is mandatory
I start to dig through her outfits. I pull out a pink tutu and a ruffled white shirt. Gigi comes over to look at it and frowns.
"That is day outfit" she says giving her hair an exaggerated flip " I need a dinner outfit"
"Ok" I say confused. I have no idea what a "dinner outfit" is or isn't. God I would make a horrible servant.
Rule 2. Don't wear a day outfit to dinner
Eventaully I find a dress that qualifies as a "dinner outfit". It is pink, poofy, and flowy with little silver sequins lining the edges. I would not be caught dead in it. Gigi gives it a twirl and giggles showing her baby teeth. I help her slip on pink plastic high heels with a picture of Cinderella on the front. Ahe then motions for me to help her put on her gloves. The white gloves are big and don't fit on her hands.
"But Gigi they don't fit"
"Swoan a princess must always wear her gloves" she replies
Rule 3. A princess must always wear gloves even if they don't fit
Gigi walks over to her shelve to grab a septer and then walks out the door her shoes clicking behind her.
" Swoan come on" Gigi says "time for you to make my royal crown"
TO BE CONTINUED....(mostly just because I am exahausted and need sleep)

sol march 26

I clip the metal leash on to Domino's collar. We have had to switch to a metal leash after she bit through a rope one last november to attempt at catching a near by squirrel. Domino is wagging her tail so much that her back half has started shaking. She licks me and jumps up on my knee as put my sneakers on. I put on my red windbreaker and push open the front door. Our front door is old and heavy and takes a few pushes to swing open. I shut the door and walk down the front path to my next obstacle... the gate.
Our gate is like our front door, but worse. The latch doesn't fully work am it takes me a minute to two minutes to open. I pull up the latch and push, it doesn't budge. I do this again slightly harder, no result. Now I yank the latch upwards and slam into the gate. It swings open as I stumble out Domino walking beside me. I close it and go on my way.
I start walking down the street careful to avoid patches of ice. I pull out my earbuds, and walk on while I attempt to untangle them. I put the right one in and leave the left hanging out as I plug them into my phone. I click the shuffle button and continue walking. I hear the intro of Dead or Alive start in as Domino starts tugging in the direction of a near by rabbit. I rap the leash around my hand and she looks up at me pleading with her big brown eyes. I keep walking as she tugs back towards where the rabbit scurried off into the bushes.
I look down at her
"Maybe some other time"

book blog

This week I read Dash and Lily's Book of Dares. I liked it, the story was fun and well paced. This book is about a boy named Dash. Dash while searching in his favorite bookstore come across a red notebook. The notebook tells Dash to go around completing random tasks and then when finished leave a phone number or email address, along with the book at the front desk. But when Dash returns the book he leaves his own set of instructions, and hence the game begins. The red notebook is returned to a girl named Lily, who set the notebook out in the store at her brothers suggestion to find love. She follows the notebooks and instructions and leaves her own. Now Dash and Lily are sending back and forth the notebook filling it with dares, hopes, and dreams. I liked this book. It was clever, funny, and interesting. It is a quicker read and I would recommend it to somebody that is looking for something more playful.

Sol march 23

My head hurts
My body aches
My foot is numb
My hands shake
I will use every excuse it takes
Just please don't take me to Karate
My neck is sore
My knee is bleeding
Its such a bore
And the kids are annoying
I will scream and claw, scratch, gnaw
If you force me into Karate
I have a lot of work
My blood sugar is low
I am going berserk
Please don't make me go
I am giving you a mean look
It won't really help much
I guess I can read my book
I can't believe that you made me go to... Karate

sol march 22

"Oh Hi there little girl! Whats your name"
"Dorathy"
My mom rolls her eyes as the check out girl looks confused. We are standing in line at the grocery store. I am five, and having an obsession with The Wizard Of Oz I have decided that my name is Dorathy, and My brother's new name is Toto. My hair is put in to two messy attempts at braids hanging past my shoulders. I had decided as dedication to Dorathy I would wear my hair in "braids". This was not only difficult because I didn't know how to braid hair, but because of the curly hair I had at the time. So instead of Dorathy's perfect braids I had clumps of twisted hair tied together with bobby pins and pony tail holders.  Along with my "braids"I am wearing a worn white and blue gingham apron. The apron was slightly to small and tight around the waist with a frayed hem at the bottom.
The check out girl coming to a moment of realization smiles at me.
"Well isn't that sweet!" she says with fake enthusiasm
I give a wide grin and wait over by the door with my brother, who at the time was just learning to talk.  The cashier looks at me, and then back at my mom knowingly as I pass them. Carson or "Toto" babbles at me as I walk towards him.
"Hi Toto" I say to him
My mom walks over towards my brother and I with brown bags of groceries in both of her hands.
"Come on Slo-"
"Dorathy" I corrected with an annoyed look on my face.
"Come on Dorathy" She says smiling "Lets go home"
"Ok" I said
Mom, My brother, and I walked out towards the car. I got in, closed my eyes, and for the rest of the ride, clicked my heels saying "There's No Place Like Home."
